Lempikilluttimiani. / Some of my favorite baubles.
Mistä äiti tietää, että lapsesta on tullut iso tyttö tai poika? No tietenkin siitä, että voit taas käyttää roikkuvia korvakoruja ilman pelkoa ensiapuun joutumisesta pikku vintiön vedettyä äidin korvasta killuvaa kivaa juttua. Meillä tätä pelkoa ei ole ollut puoleen vuoteen , mutta olen silti käyttänyt lähinnä järkeviä nappikorvakoruja tai jättänyt korvakorut kokonaan kotiin. Tähän olen tottunutkin, koska alakouluiässä tehdyn ja melkoiseen tulehduskierteeseen päättyneen korvakorukokeilun jälkeen rei’itin korvani uudelleen vasta pitkälle yli kolmikymppisenä. Olen tottunut asustamaan muutenkin kuin korvakoruilla.
Kesän tullessa on kuitenkin hienoa kaivaa esille korulaatikon näyttävimmät killuttimet, ja jopa käyttää niitä. Tai no, hurjimpia diskokilluttimia en sentään harkinnut vappuluonaalle laittavani. Mukana pohdinnoissa oli muutama suosikkiparini. Mitään huikean arvokkaita koruja joukossa ei ollut, mutta pari kappaletta rakkaita matkamuistoja kylläkin. Mielestäni Suomen pukukoruvalikoimat ovat tylsähköt verrattuna muuhun Eurooppaan. Meiltä saa puhdasta rihkamaa ja paria skandinaavista suosikkimerkkiä. Jo Amsterdamin valikoima kestävissä, kohtuuhintaisissa pukukorumerkeissä on huikea. Sieltä ovat myös minulle yleisesti vieraamman metallin väriset, kullat korvakorut. Koruni ovat yleensä kylmäsävyisistä metalleista, jotka pukevat minua paremmin. Minulla on kuitenkin vatteita, joissa on kullan värisiä yksityiskohtia. Nämä korvakorut puvun seuraksi, jossa on kultainen vetoketju iltatilaisuuteen. Sittemmin nämä korut ovatkin valikoituneet korviin useammassa juhlallisessa tilaisuudessa. Ne tuntuvat olevat juuri sopivat moneen tilaisuuteen, ja ovat myös ilahduttavan keveät.

How does a mother know that her baby has become a big girl or a big boy? Well, obviously from the fact she can wear pendant earrings without a fear of ending up to ER after the little rascal has pulled one of them. We’ve crossed this point at least half a year ago, but I’ve still worn mainly discreet stud earrings or no earrings at all. After all, I only got my ears pierced again after an attempt that ended to a series of painful inflammations back in grade school after I’d turned 30. I’m more accostumed to accessorize with other jewerly.
However, when the Summer comes, it’s fun to take out the most showy pendants in my jewerly box and use them. Or maybe not, I didn’t consider using my disco earring on our May 1st lunch out. When I thought about accessorizing for the occasion, I considered few of my favorite earrings pictured here. These are all costume jewerly, and not particularly expensive as such, but they do have sentimental value, especially the ones I’ve gotten as souvenirs. The costume jewerly selection in Finland tends to be boring compared to the rest of Europe. There are a couple of good, Scandinavian brands and pure bric-a-barc available. You only have to go to Amsterdam to find a wide selection of wellmade, very reasonably priced costume jewerly.
In fact, the earrings I chose for the occasion were bought in Amsterdam. My choice of golden jewerly is quite limited, since cold tones are more flattering on me. That said, I have many clothes with golden details, and these were bought to compliment a dress with a golden zip for a dinner. After that, I’ve worn them in many festive occasions. They seem just right for many kind of events, and are surprisingly lightweight.
